When is Father's Day?

Father's Day in the UK falls on the third Sunday of June every year. It's the same date in the US and most of Europe, so wherever you're reading from, the gift-shopping window is the same.

A brief history of Father's Day

Father's Day is a relatively recent invention. It originated in the United States in the early 20th century, largely as a companion to Mother's Day, and is widely credited to Sonora Smart Dodd, a woman from Washington State who wanted to honour her widowed single father. She first celebrated it in 1910, but it took until 1972 for it to become an official US public holiday.

The UK adopted Father's Day later, borrowing the American tradition, and it's now observed on the third Sunday of June across the UK, US, Canada, and much of Europe. Some countries do it differently, for example, Australia and New Zealand celebrate in September, but June is the most common month it’s recognised around the world.

When is Father’s Day this year?

With Father’s Day falling on the third Sunday of June each year, Father’s Day is on Sunday, 21st June for 2026. As above, this is the same date across the UK, US and a majority of Europe.

When is Father’s Day in Australia and New Zealand?

Not all regions celebrate on the third Sunday of June - in Australia and New Zealand, Father’s Day is recognised on the first Sunday of September. This means Australians and Kiwis will be honouring their fathers on Sunday, 6th September in 2026.

Why jewellery makes a good Father's Day gift

Jewellery is a gift that lasts beyond the day you’re celebrating, as it has the power to hold memories and meaning. A gifted piece of jewellery is something they can hold close every day, acting as a reminder of the moment, story and love behind the gift exchange and their relationship with who gave it.

It’s worth mentioning that we don't design our pieces with a particular gender in mind, and everything we make is for whoever connects with it. Our "for him" collection is a good place to start if you're not sure where to look, but all of our pieces make perfect gifts for everyone. If he'd wear it, it's for him.

All our jewellery is handmade in recycled solid sterling silver or solid gold, so it's built to be worn and treasured every day without the risk of fading.

Meaningful keepsakes

For a lot of people, the jewellery pieces that matter most are the ones that have a story behind them, something chosen with thought and care.

Our Saint Christopher Medallion Necklace and Signet Ring are some of our most gifted pieces for men, and would make wonderful Father’s Day gifts. Saint Christopher was known as the patron saint of travellers, so it's a natural fit for anyone who's often on the road, loves being outdoors, or just someone you'd like to have a little something looking out for them. It works as a gift without needing a lot of explanation. With subtle organic texturing and made from recycled sterling silver or solid 9ct gold in London, our St Christopher pieces are timeless with a modern twist.

Our Personalised Handwriting Hammered Ring is another popular piece for all genders. Available in either 4mm or 5mm widths, and engraved with handwriting on the inside, this is a Father’s Day jewellery gift that holds loving words close and only known to them in an easy-to-wear, everyday ring.

Personalised jewellery for Dad

Personalisation is a great route if you want to give something that's clearly been thought about rather than just picked. Engraved jewellery is a way to add extra meaning or messages to a gift. When it comes to what to engrave, there's no real wrong answer, but some ideas we love are:

  • A date that means something to the two of you, or to your family

  • His children's initials, or another meaningful name

  • Coordinates of a place he loves or somewhere significant to your family

Just remember to leave a bit of extra time if you're going personalised, and if you're stuck on what to engrave, keeping it simple usually works best. A date, name or a set of initials is plenty. You can read our jewellery engraving ideas article here if you’d like some more inspiration.

Our aforementioned Saint Christopher Necklace and Handwriting Hammered Ring are available for complimentary engraving, so make wonderful choices if you want to add a personalised touch. If he’s more of a bracelet guy, our Silver Personalised Chunky Bangle is a bold cuff bangle that can be stamped with a short name or message - this is our favourite personalised piece for jewellery-loving Fathers this year.

Everyday pieces he'll love wearing

A lot of men who wouldn't describe themselves as jewellery wearers end up wearing a piece regularly once they have one that feels like them. The key is choosing something that doesn't ask too much; something he can put on without thinking about it, and that goes with everything he already wears.

A sterling silver signet ring, a simple chain, or a cuff that doesn't feel like a statement are our top picks here. Nothing that requires a specific occasion, just something that becomes part of getting dressed in the morning.

How to choose the right Father’s Day jewellery gift

If you’re unsure on what jewellery gift to choose for your dad, stepdad, grandfather or other father-figure this Father’s Day, we recommend considering the following to help narrow it down…

What does he already wear? If he wears silver, go silver. If he wears gold, match that. It means whatever you give him will feel like it belongs with what he already has, and you’ve got his metal preference right.

How much time do you have? If you have over a month to go, something bespoke would be a great choice - but please note the timeline does depend on the complexity of your design. Within a week or more, engraved jewellery is easily doable. Closer to the date, our ready-to-wear pieces without personalisation are just as lovely and don't need any lead time.

Is there a story behind it? The gifts that tend to land best have a reason behind them, even if it’s a small one. If you know what you want the gift to symbolise, the choice usually becomes a lot easier. If you'd like a recommendation, just get in touch, and we’ll be happy to help.

Father's Day gifts for every kind of Dad

The dad who doesn't usually wear jewellery: Keep it simple and understated. A fine chain or a band ring is the easiest place to start, something that doesn't feel like a big leap.

The dad who already wears jewellery: Go for something that matches his usual style; if he loves unique designs, our Bloom Rings have nature-inspired shapes and light-bouncing textures that he’s sure to love. If he likes to be bold with his jewellery, our chunky Statement Organic Handwriting Necklace is something he’s sure to love, complete with handwritten engraving for a personal touch.

The dad who's hard to buy for: Choose something personalised in their preferred metal for someone tricky to buy for; they’re sure to appreciate the thought that went into choosing something one-of-a-kind for them.

The stepdad, the grandad, or another father-figure: Father's Day doesn't have to be strictly biological. If someone has been there for you, jewellery is a lovely way to acknowledge that.

Give an experience: Our ring-making workshops in London

If you're looking for something to do together, or for someone who has everything, our ring-making workshops are a really popular gift. During the two-hour workshop, hand-carve your very own signet or stacking ring out of wax, which we’ll then cast in solid sterling silver or 9ct gold and send back to you in 4-6 weeks. If you’re London-based (or happy to make the journey), it's a brilliant option for a milestone Father's Day or for anyone who'd rather have an experience than another thing to unwrap.

A Father’s Day jewellery gift made to last

If you're thinking about Father's Day as an opportunity to give something that reflects your values as well as his, it's worth knowing a bit about how our jewellery is made.

Everything at Wild Fawn is handcrafted in solid sterling silver or solid gold - we don’t plate our jewellery. We made that choice because plated jewellery fades, and we didn't want to make things people would stop wearing in a year or two. Solid metals can be worn every day, polished back to life if needed, and passed on eventually. It's a more sustainable way to buy jewellery, simply because the piece lasts.

We also only work with 100% recycled metals, keep our packaging plastic-free, and make everything to order or in small batches. Our jewellery is for anyone who cares deeply about what they buy, how it’s made, and who they buy it from.
