There’s something special about being by the sea. Like many, the beach is my happy place, whether on the beautiful UK coast or in faraway paradises like Sri Lanka, where I sourced ethical sapphires earlier this year. Many of our jewellery designs are inspired by the bliss of the beach, from pebbles and pearls to waves and swells; there is so much inspiration where the land meets the sea.
Today, I wanted to dive into the inspiration behind these beach jewellery designs and speak more about styling your sea-inspired jewellery throughout summer and beyond.

Can you wear jewellery on the beach?
This is a question we get a lot, and the answer is yes, as long as your jewellery was created with longevity and quality in mind. A few weeks ago, we wrote an article about the ins and outs of gold jewellery and water. In a nutshell, you can wear solid gold jewellery in water, as unlike plated jewellery, the buttery gold colour won’t corrode or fade when in contact with salt water.
Of course, wearer discretion is advised when wearing your jewellery on the beach, even when it’s made of solid gold or silver like our pieces at Wild Fawn. Any lotions, oils, suncream, and sand should be gently cleaned off when returning from the beach to retain the metal's radiance, and keep a polishing cloth handy to bring back any faded shine. We also recommend removing any delicate or valuable pieces you’re not prepared to lose if embarking on surfing, diving or other watersports, but for a relaxing visit and gentle dip, your solid gold or silver jewellery can be worn without worry.
Our beach jewellery favourites
The shell jewellery staple
Newly launched in collaboration with slow-linen brand arkitaip is The Oyster Necklace, a piece of shell jewellery inspired by an oyster’s spirit. Crafted in the shape of a real oyster shell I picked out on a trip to Whitstable beach, the solid sterling silver oyster shell pendant hangs on a red wax cord and can be adjusted to suit your neckline, mood or moment.
Mesmeric freshwater pearl jewellery
Pearl jewellery was always going to make this list; we can’t resist the beauty and lustre of freshwater pearls when worn as a pendant or in a hoop. Pearl jewellery is incredibly versatile, from being an essential on the beach to being an elegant choice for bridal jewellery. Our Pearl Drop Huggie Hoop Earrings are an easy-to-wear pearl piece for the beach; choose from solid 9ct yellow gold or recycled sterling silver and wear alone or as the star of your beach ear stack.
Sea-inspired jewellery that captures the movement and motion of water
From gentle ripples to waves and swells, the movement of water inspires the shapes in our jewellery.
Our Bloom Swirl Ring honours the hypnotic spiral patterns found in nature, including the circular swells and waves of the ocean. In the same collection, our Bloom Wave Ring and Silver Wave Hoop Earrings are reminiscent of wave shapes found in gentler waters, like streams, rivers and still seas.
Originally handcrafted from wax, the organic texture and finish of these pieces is what we love most about them.

Textural coastal jewellery
With a softly hammered finish that resembles the varying texture of pebbles, our Pebble Stud Earrings are a quiet nod to the coast. Each is handmade in our London workshop; no two pairs are the same, just like the uniqueness of stones and pebbles found on beaches across the natural world.
