Prepare your impression

Find a well-lit space.

Lay out the wax and protective paper on a flat surface.

If your hands are cold, gently warm them by rubbing them together

Soften & shape the wax

Remove the wax from the jar. Warm it between your palms into a ball shape for 30 seconds until soft and pliable.

Smooth the surface lightly to remove any cracks or creases. The wax should feel soft but not sticky. If it feels firm, continue warming slightly longer.

Capture your fingerprint

Press your finger firmly and evenly into the centre of the wax. Keep steady pressure for 3 seconds. Lift straight up without twisting, rocking or rolling.

If you're not completely happy, simply warm and smooth the wax, roll it into a ball and try again.

Securely package your imprint

Once you're happy with your imprint, allow the wax to fully cool and firm.

Pour some cool water into both tins (about halfway). This helps prevent the wax from melting in transit.

Place both impressions into their protective tins, which contain water.

Helpful tips & FAQ

How can I get the best imprint?

Ensure your hands are clean and dry before taking your impression for the best result.

Make sure the wax is soft and pliable before taking your impression.

If it feels firm, warm it slightly and try again.

How firmly should I press on the wax?

Avoid pressing the wax too firmly, as flattening the impression can affect how well it casts.

If the wax becomes translucent or transparent, this means too much pressure has been applied. Simply warm it up again and try once more.

Can I imprint a baby or child fingerprint?

Yes, the wax we use is baby and child safe.

With very young babies, fingerprints can be softer and less defined, so you may capture more of the finger’s shape rather than clear lines.

For older children, you can apply slightly firmer pressure to help pick up more detail.

Why do you send 2 pieces of wax?

Each kit will create one pendant, but we include 2 pieces of wax.

One will act as a backup, and we will choose the best one to cast.

Simply repeat the same steps with the second ball of wax and return both impressions to us in the separate tins provided.

Please do not combine your wax balls, as these have been carefully weighed. If combined, we may need to get in touch with a quote to cover the difference.

Can I combine the 2 wax balls to make a bigger pendant?

No - Please do not combine your wax balls, as these have been carefully weighed to create a pendant the size you have paid for.

If combined, we may need to get in touch with a quote to cover the difference.

How long does the process take?

After placing your order, your kit will be with you within 4 working days.

Once we receive your imprints back at our workshop, you can expect to receive your finished piece within approximately 4-6 weeks.
